    Biographical Note

    George Delis was born in Vraila, Romania in 1870. He studied medicine in Vienna, and he also attended classes of philosophy. In 1897 he came to Greece to fight as a volunteer in the war against Turks. After the end of the war he went back to Vienna and worked as a doctor until 1908; afterwards he came back to Greece, and since then he permanently lived in Athens.

    In 1921 he had his first collected poems “The Lee-ward Evenings” published. Then the following collected poems came out. In 1927 “The Clouds at Sundown”; in 1942 “Bygone Times and Bygone Worlds”; in 1949 “The Symphonic Dissonances”. In 1953 came out “The Lyric”, a volume of his complete poetical works with Constantin Parthenis’ illustrations.

    The poet and doctor George Delis passed away in Kifissia on the 23 of August in 1954.
