    Biographical Note

    He was born in 1921 in Estonia and died in 1983 at the age of 62 in the USA. He studied at the Orthodox Theological Institute of St Sergius in Paris. He taught church history at St Sergius until 1951, when he was invited to join the faculty of St Vladimir’s in New York and held positions of adjunct professor at Columbia University.

    Main works: “The Christian concept of death”, “Sunday of Orthodoxy”, “Clergy and Laity in the Orthodox Church”, “Byzantium, Iconoclasm and the Monks”.
